First Trip to Santiago

Today, instead of going to what should have been my first day of school, my host family decided to take me to Santiago to go shopping. Now I usually hate shopping, but in Chile it's soooo cool. All the stores are outside and everything is so colorful! We walked around and got pins for Fran to trade in the US, and then we started looking at clothes. Whenever I looked at something for longer than two seconds my host mom would try to buy it for me, but I didn't want to waste their money. But then we started finding things like 10 dollar adorable sweaters (Fran got a white one and I got a burgundy one) and while walking though a shoe store we found Uggs for $20! Fran and I each got a pair. We decided that if there was one thing I needed in Chile, it was a pair of the jeans that everyone in Chile wears. My American jeans made me stand out, and because Rotary told me not to overpack, I had under packed and only brought two pairs of jeans with me! We spent a long time trying to find a pair of jeans for me that weren't "flaite" (which is pretty much the Chilean version of "white trash") and finally found a store that had a pair that fit me well! Yayyyyy I am now a Chilean with Chilean pants. In another store, Fran found some high waisted shorts that she loved and told me to try on a pair too, so I did. I loved them too, but when I tried to buy them she insisted they were a gift. Fran is so giving. Last night she randomly pulled out a wrapped gift for me and I opened it and it was a pretty rosy colored windbreaker! She really is the perfect definition of what a little girl wants when she asks her parents for an older sister for Christmas. Before leaving Santiago, we stopped at another store where mom bought us each a beanie. Mine is navy blue and I can wear it with my uniform! I fell asleep on the ride home in Fran's lap because I was so exhausted from the things we did today. When we got home, Fran and I put on all the clothes we got and just sort of hung out in them and felt cool.
Now I am blogging earlier than usual because Fran and I want to watch episodes of Modern Family and get to bed early after dinner. YOU KNOW WHY I NEED TO GO TO BED EARLY?! I have my first day of school tomorrow! I am soooo excited. I can't wait to hang out with my friends and speak Spanish and meet even more people and wear my uniform. Tomorrow morning as I walk into the school, I know I will be shaking tremendously, and I will look very nervous because that's just why my body does before I see a bunch of people. Fran says I am a Chihuahua because of this.
Well I hope your day was as fun as mine and that you have an even better night! Wish me luck at school tomorrow. :)
